If your cistern will not flush and the lever feels slack, then the first thing you need to do is check the wired link at the end of the flushing arm is still attached.
STEPS:
1. Take the lid off and check the water level is up to the mark or maximum mark.
2. If all seems will then replace the siphon or float valve. Dont worry at this stage because these are just terms for the long plastic part that comes up from the bottom of the cistern or the piece that occupies the middle of the cistern
These come in various formats.
3. To stop water flowing into the cistern whilst you are working on it:
Lift up the Float or ball cock and tie it with a piece of string attached to a wooden baton placed across the cistern, then flush the cistern.
4. Undo the nut at the bottom of the cistern.
5. Be prepared to catch any water that may drip from the cistern
6. Release the pipe and retaining bolt from the underside of the cistern an take out the siphon or valve
7. Replace valve and tighten, check for leaks, remove baton and fill cistern with water, flush and test .
CLEARING A BLOCKED SINK
The first signs of a blocked sink are:
*sink is slow to drain away
*If you have a double drainer sink the second waste outlet or the smaller of the two sinks takes longer to drain away.
MAIN CAUSES:
Grease, food residue or hair get lodged in the trap or U-bend.
1. Use a chemical drain cleaner with extreme caution, taking care to wear protective gloves.
2. Use a plunger-block the overflow with a cloth, fill sink with about 2 cupfuls of water Use rapid pumping action to force the blockage to dislodge itself.
3. If these attempts do not work then the only option is to remove the trap completely and try to remove the blockage from the bend
